KELLY UFKIN

BIO

When Kelly was six years old her family relocated from Riverside, California to Portland, Maine. This is where she spent most of her life until she went to college in Scranton, PA. Marywood University became her home for seven years and where she earned a BFA in Art Therapy and minor in Psychology. Kelly had decided to remain at Marywood to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Painting. She studied abroad for two semesters in Florence, Italy where she was trained in oil and fresco painting. Europe was a life-altering experience for her, and she continues to travel abroad for inspiration. Being able to study the masters from Musee Marmottan Monet, Louvre, Uffizi and others have broadened her skills and highly influenced her work. Since completing her master’s degree in May of 2012, Kelly returned to Maine.

“MY WORK HAS TAKEN ON NEW DIRECTIONS THROUGH THE INSPIRATION AND STUDY OF ARTISTS THAT HAVE MADE AN IMPACT ON ME; ESPEICALLY FROM THE IMPRESSIONIST ERA. mONEt, RENOIR, THAULOW AND COROT HAVE ENLIGHTENED ME ON HOW TO REALLY CAPTURE A MOMENT IN TIME IN A SIMPLISTIC MANNER. CARAVAGGIO AND gENTILESCHI’S REALISM AND EXTENSIVE TECHNIQUE HAVE HELPED ME ENHANCE MY STYLE. MODERN PAINTERS SUCH AS THE WYETH FAMILY HAVE PROVIDED ME WITH MOTIVATION AND INSIGHT.”
